Special Events


Events for Kids


LEGO NIGHTS! Kids can come to the library every Tuesday from 4:30-5:30pm and develop their mechanical engineering skills by building! For kids 10 and under, some LEGO duplos and blocks will be made available for younger children.

Storytime for kids 10 and under will be held every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30

Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to join us for the Pizza Reading Robots. This reading club for kids will take place every third Wednesday of the month. The next meeting is on Thursday July 9th from 4:30 to 5:30.


Events for Teens




Join us for the Teen Book Club Thursday, July 23 2015 from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. This month we will discuss the book "The 5th Wave" By Rick Yancey.

Events for The Family


Join us for Game Night! It'll be lots of fun for everyone with a variety of board games and card games. Thursday, July 9th from 5:345pm to 7:00pm

We have some fun events planned at the Leanna Hicks Inkster Public Library this summer.

JOIN US FOR THE 2015 SUMMER READING KICKOFF TUESDAY, JUNE 23RD 2015 FROM 5:00 P.M. TO 7:00 P.M. !!! There will be fun for the whole family with Animals, Music, Face Paint, Twisty Animal Balloons, and Summer Reading Sign-Up. Featuring a PETTING ZOO including animals such as an alpaca, bunnies, chickens, ducks, goats,a mini horse, a mini donkey, a pot-bellied pig, and sheep.

On Tuesday, June 30th, 2015 we will be having a movie marathon and playing a variety of great superhero movies all day. We will begin by showing "The Incredibles"(Rated PG) at 10:15am. Then at 12:30pm we will show "The Avengers" (Rated PG-13). After at 3:15pm we will show "Big Hero 6" (Rated PG). We will finish with "Guardians of the Galaxy" (PG-13) at 5:15pm.

Saturday, July 11th, 2015 at 1:00pm Families are welcome to come to Gwen's "Every Hero Has A Story" Storytelling program for some fun hero stories and crafts.

Saturday July 18th, 2015 at 1:00pm the author Christine Tricarico is coming to read her picture book Cock-A-Doodle Dance and shows everyone how to do the dance from the book.

On Saturday, July 25th, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 3:30pm everyone is welcome to participate and show off their abilities in the Super Talent Show!

Saturday, August 1st, 2015 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm children ages 7 to13 can join us for some fun activities and experiments with the "Science of Superpowers"

Saturday, August 8th, 2015 at 1:00pm a member from the Fire Department will be coming to do a special family friendly presentation.

Saturday, August 15th, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm teens are invited to our "Craft A Mask" program where we will be creating and decorating superhero/supervillain masks.

On Saturday, August 22nd 2015 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm Inkster Family Literacy Movement invites everyone to the Reading Rally, a fun filled event for the whole family with activities, giveaways, and live entertainment.



Events for Adults


Join us at the Computer Class held on Thursday July 2nd from 2:15 to 3:30.

If you want to learn more about computers, come to our Basic Computer Skills Workshop! Subjects covered include setting up e-mail, using windows, creating documents in Word, writing a resume and cover letter, and applying for a job online. It will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday July 11th, Saturday July 18th, Saturday July 25th, and Saturday August 1st. Participants must be able to go to the program on all four dates. Registration is required and may be done by calling the library at (313) 563-2822.

Library Board Meetings Every Third Thursday of the month at 4:00pm and are open to the public.
